(see below for detail)

The tour begins in Lafayette Cemetery, where we'll discuss our city's curious and often ridiculous efforts to deal with epidemics and house our skyrocketing numbers of dead. Then, we'll go on to explore some of the area's historic homes. Through the stories of the neighborhood’s most famous historical residents, you’ll learn about the Garden District’s early settlement and history: from the Civil War era, when many homes were occupied by the Union army, to the bizarre and hilarious corruption and scams of Gilded Age politics -- and see a few celebrity homes and filming locations along the way! Explore the Garden District, a neighborhood of decadent mansions and lush gardens. Hear the stories of the fascinating and unusual people who lived (and died) here. We go beyond what you’ll hear anywhere else, to bring you the real history of the violent, filthy, corrupt city of New Orleans -- in all its glory.

The tour begins at 12:30 p.m. from the front gate of Lafayette Cemetery located on Washington St between Prytania, and Coliseum directly across the street from Commander's Palace restaurant (1403 Washington Ave). Please arrive 15 minutes before start time to allow time to get checked in.
